Darkness Abyss

Nyx Vale grew up drawn to music that was beautiful but unsettling - gothic rock, alternative metal, cinematic scores and haunting vocal music. She began writing lyrics privately long before she considered becoming a singer, using them to turn isolation, grief, anxiety and difficult relationships into stories.

Her voice became the foundation of Darkness Abyss: intimate and fragile in quieter passages, then enormous when the band erupts around her. Nyx writes much of the band's lyrical material and deliberately avoids pretending every story has a happy ending. Her philosophy is that sometimes simply surviving the darkness is the ending.

Onstage she is almost theatrical: black lace, flowing fabrics, silver jewellery and a controlled presence that contrasts with the chaos around her.

Luca was raised in a musical household and started with classical guitar before discovering metal as a teenager. Instead of abandoning his classical background, he began combining the two - layering melodic passages, unusual chord voicings and dramatic solos over heavily distorted guitars.

He spent years playing in small Italian metal bands but became frustrated with traditional genre boundaries. Luca wanted guitars that could sound brutal one moment and almost orchestral the next. After hearing an early Darkness Abyss demo, he contacted Nyx. What was supposed to be a guest guitar recording eventually became permanent membership.

Luca is the band's obsessive perfectionist. He may record twenty versions of a solo and then decide the first one was better. His trademark guitars are black, heavily customised instruments with subtle silver detailing.

Ren grew up surrounded by radically different music - Japanese rock, electronic music, industrial, metal and experimental sound design. He originally studied audio engineering and became fascinated with frequencies people feel rather than consciously hear.

That philosophy shaped his bass playing. Instead of simply following the guitars, Ren creates deep, distorted bass textures that sit underneath Darkness Abyss like a second atmosphere. He met the band while working on production for one of their early recordings. Nyx noticed that every time the existing bass part stopped, Ren quietly picked up the instrument and started experimenting with it.

He was eventually asked to play on the recording, then another. Eventually everyone stopped pretending he wasn't already in the band. Ren also contributes restrained backing vocals and electronic textures.

Alex grew up in a large, loud family where rhythm was everywhere. He started playing percussion as a child before discovering rock and metal drumming, eventually combining traditional rhythmic instincts with aggressive modern metal techniques.

Before Darkness Abyss, Alex built a reputation as a relentless live drummer. His style isn't simply about speed - he treats drums almost like another storyteller, moving between sparse atmospheric beats, tribal percussion and explosive double-kick sections.

Alex met Luca while both were involved in a European touring project. Luca later recommended him when Darkness Abyss needed someone capable of handling the band's constantly changing dynamics. Alex became the band's source of energy almost immediately.

Darius came from the electronic and industrial side of music rather than traditional metal. As a teenager he experimented with synthesizers, samplers, drum machines and corrupted audio recordings, fascinated by turning ordinary sounds into something disturbing.

He later worked as an independent producer creating electronic, industrial and cinematic music. Darkness Abyss originally approached him to remix one of their tracks. Instead of simply remixing it, Darius dismantled the entire song and rebuilt it around distorted electronics, orchestral ambience and enormous industrial percussion.

The band loved it. His role expanded into keyboards, programming, samples, sound design and production. Much of the strange ambience heard between guitars - whispers, reversed sounds, glitches, drones and mechanical textures - comes from Darius.
