ICON5

Five voices. One world.

ICON5 band: Aeri Kang, Hana Seo, Jisoo Kwon, Mina Yoon and Yuna Shin.

Behind the sound

The story.

ICON5 is a five-member K-pop girl group built around contrast: five distinct performers forming one identity. Aeri Kang provides leadership and stability, Hana Seo drives the group's movement and choreography, Jisoo Kwon brings a darker rap edge, Mina Yoon supplies the vocal power, and Yuna Shin adds bright melodic energy.

The members came through different musical paths rather than being shaped as identical performers from the beginning. Early rehearsals exposed those differences – Hana pushed for harder choreography, Mina protected the live vocals, Jisoo leaned toward heavier and darker production, and Yuna brought brighter pop instincts. Aeri became the member who learned how to balance those competing strengths.

Instead of smoothing those differences away, ICON5 built its sound around them. Their musical identity blends modern K-pop, female vocal power, rap, electronic production, dance music and darker cinematic elements. That range lets the group move from colourful, high-energy pop to cyber-electronic material such as 'Black Rabbit' without losing its core identity.

ICON5's defining idea is simple: five voices, five personalities, one group.

Aeri Kang

Aeri Kang

Leader · Vocalist

Read the story

Aeri Kang grew up in Seoul, South Korea, in a family where music was always present but never considered a realistic career. As a child, she was quiet and observant, preferring piano lessons and writing fragments of songs in notebooks to being the centre of attention. That changed during high school when she performed at a school festival after another singer pulled out. Her controlled voice and unexpectedly commanding stage presence convinced her to audition professionally.

Aeri spent several difficult years as a trainee. She was never initially considered the strongest dancer or most powerful singer in the room, but she became known for being extraordinarily dependable. She stayed late to practise, helped newer trainees learn choreography and was often the person others went to when the pressure became overwhelming.

When ICON5 began taking shape, Aeri naturally became the group's leader. Rather than being the loudest member, she leads through patience and discipline. She is heavily involved in rehearsals and is often the bridge between the members and the production team. Behind the polished image, Aeri is also a songwriter, keeping notebooks filled with unfinished lyrics about ambition, loneliness and the difference between the person seen onstage and the person who goes home afterward.

Hana Seo

Hana Seo

Lead Dancer · Vocalist

Read the story

Hana Seo grew up in Busan, South Korea, and discovered dance before she discovered singing. As a child she studied several forms of dance, eventually becoming fascinated with hip-hop, contemporary choreography and K-pop performance. By her teenage years she was entering local dance competitions and uploading choreography videos online. One of those performances eventually brought her to the attention of talent scouts.

Hana moved away from home to train, expecting dance to be her path into the industry. Vocals initially became her biggest obstacle. Surrounded by naturally strong singers, she worried that she would always be considered only 'the dancer.' Instead of accepting that role, she began taking additional vocal lessons and practising after dance rehearsals had finished. Her improvement eventually earned her a dual position as Lead Dancer and Vocalist.

Hana became central to ICON5's performance style. She has a natural understanding of how choreography looks through a camera rather than simply how technically difficult it is, and frequently contributes ideas for transitions, formations and dance-break sections. Away from performances, she is energetic and competitive, but also one of the first members to notice when someone is struggling.

Jisoo Kwon

Jisoo Kwon

Main Rapper

Read the story

Jisoo Kwon grew up in Incheon, South Korea, listening to hip-hop long before she considered becoming an idol. Unlike several of the other members, her first interest was not choreography or polished pop performance - it was writing. As a teenager, she filled notebooks and phone notes with verses about school, expectations, friendships and frustration.

Jisoo became fascinated with internal rhyme, unusual flows and the way changing rhythm could completely alter the personality of a verse. She started performing at small youth events and dance studios, developing a rougher style than the one normally associated with idol trainees. Her audition stood out because she performed material she had written herself rather than copying an established song.

Training forced Jisoo outside her comfort zone. She had to develop singing, dancing and camera technique while learning how to retain the personality of her rap style inside highly produced pop songs. That contrast became one of ICON5's signatures. She contributes lyrics and frequently rewrites portions of her own rap sections. Her confident stage persona can be misleading: offstage, Jisoo is more introverted and spends a surprising amount of time alone listening to music, gaming or writing.

Mina Yoon

Mina Yoon

Main Vocal

Read the story

Mina Yoon grew up in Daegu, South Korea, and was the member whose path into music began most traditionally. She started singing young, participated in school performances and received formal vocal training before ever considering the idol industry. Her early ambition was simply to become a singer.

Mina loved emotional ballads and powerful vocalists and spent years developing breath control, range and the ability to move between delicate verses and much larger choruses. Her first attempts to enter the industry were not successful. Several auditions ended in rejection, with feedback ranging from her dancing needing improvement to her performance style being too restrained. Mina seriously considered abandoning the idea, but instead spent another year training before auditioning again.

That second attempt changed everything. Mina eventually became the Main Vocal of ICON5, responsible for many of the group's demanding choruses, sustained notes, harmonies and climactic vocal sections. Producers also discovered that her softer lower register worked particularly well on ICON5's darker electronic tracks. She has gradually become interested in composition and vocal arrangement, especially building layered harmonies using all five members.

Yuna Shin

Yuna Shin

Lead Vocal · Maknae

Read the story

As ICON5's youngest member, Yuna Shin had the shortest life before entering the entertainment world. She grew up in Daejeon, South Korea, singing constantly around the house and learning songs largely by ear. Yuna initially attracted attention through youth performances and online vocal clips.

Her voice had a naturally bright quality that contrasted strongly with Mina's richer vocal tone, making the two particularly effective together. She entered training younger than the other ICON5 members and initially struggled with the expectations placed on her. Rather than attempting to imitate the older performers around her, Yuna gradually developed a style built around her naturally expressive voice and youthful stage energy.

Her position as Lead Vocal allows her to carry pre-choruses, hooks and melodic bridges before Mina's larger vocal climaxes. Producers also frequently pair Yuna with Jisoo, using Yuna's clean melodic vocals immediately before or after Jisoo's darker rap sections. As the maknae, Yuna gets teased relentlessly by the older members, although she has learned to give it straight back. She dreams of eventually writing and producing a complete ICON5 song herself.
